Maude Hirst is an actor turned mindfulness teacher on a mission to create a bespoke path into mindfulness for her clients. On discovering yoga and meditation, it changed her life for the better and she can do the same for you through her website, EnergyRise.
How did EnergyRise come about?
I started EnergyRise because I was learning so many different mindfulness techniques that had helped me so much and I wanted to share them ALL in one place so it was easy for people to access. I believe that we are all so different and unique, so a practice that works for one person might not work for everyone. Therefore, creating EnergyRise seemed like a perfect way to offer a variety of paths into mindfulness so everyone can find a practice that works for their individual needs.
Should everyone be practicing Mindfulness?
Yes, I believe with the huge rise in stress and anxiety around these days, finding a mindfulness practice that works for you is essential to keeping your body and mind healthy. Even if it is just a breathing technique you can practice in a few minutes, there’s something out there for everyone.
You teach lots of different wellbeing exercises. Which is your favourite to practise?
I actually practice different techniques depending on my mood. Movement meditation is a wonderful way to connect back to my body, yoga is great to clear out any stuck energy and meditation to bring a calm and clarity when I feel stressed. I honestly love them all.
How can mindfulness help those who are self-isolating?
At times like these it is more important than ever to find ways to keep calm and moving for our physical and mental health. Learning ways to control your breathing patterns to balance the nervous system and feel more in control can be such a lovely and empowering tool to have - especially at times where we feel we have little control. Also, we all have lots of time on our hands, so a perfect time to start something new :)
How are you keeping your mental wellbeing in check throughout these uncertain times?
I am doing lots of self-practice. Meditating, yoga and movement meditation. I am also reading lots and teaching online, which has been a new discovery for me and I’m actually really loving being able to connect to people and support people through these bizarre times.
Any self-isolating tips?
Only watch the news once a day. Take some time to reflect and retreat - I feel like the world is telling us all to slow down and realise what is truly important. So give yourself time to check inwards.
Has there been a book, song or piece of advice that has helped you on your journey?
Many, but one book that really stands out is ‘The Body Keeps The Score’ by Bessel van der Kolk. It’s one I believe we should all read to understand ourselves and each other in a deeper, more conscious way.
Do you have a favourite Mantra?
Feel the fear and do it anyway (although this changes all the time!)
