Hyrox Essentials: What to Pack

Competing in a HYROX Event: Your Complete Packing List

Please note: this guide is independently written and is not affiliated with HYROX.

HYROX race day is longer than most people expect once you factor in travelling to the venue, registering, waiting for your wave, warming up, racing and travelling home.

This guide covers what you actually need, based on what works for people who have done HYROX before. You don't need a lot of kit, just the right things at the right time.

Snacks and hydration

When it comes to snacks, pack whatever you normally eat before training, don't try anything new on race day.

Some favourites amongst competitors are bananas, oat bars and rice cakes.

Water stations are available on the course but bring your own bottle so you can drink while waiting and immediately after finishing.

Warming up

Always stick to your normal warm-up routine and avoid standing in the start area too early, you want to start the race feeling energised.

What to Pack

Pack for different parts of the day

Rather than just packing everything together into one bag it's helpful to think about your day in phases:

  • Getting to the venue
  • Waiting for your wave
  • Warming up
  • Racing
  • After you finish
  • Travelling home

If you pack for each phase, you will have what you need, when you need it.

What I Pack for a Hyrox Doubles Race Abroad - Stef's story

Racing a Hyrox Doubles event abroad is such an exciting experience, but it definitely comes with extra planning. You’re not just preparing your body, you’re packing for travel, race day, and recovery.

I like to pack at least the day before then do a quick double check that I've got the essentials in themorning before I leave to avoid forgetting something obvious like my phone charger.

After racing and travelling for Hyrox a few times now, I’ve honed my packing list so I feel organised, stress free and ready to race. I usually only travel for one or two nights, so I keep it light with a carry on bag only and having the right La Pochette pieces means everything has its place and nothing gets lost or mixed up.

HYROX is well organised so once my bag is in bag drop, I just have my race kit with me knowing I'll easily be able to find everything else once I finish.

My essentials:

  • Passport
  • Travel tickets
  • Race confirmation
  • Purse
  • Phone charger

My race day essentials:

  • My race trainers stored in my La Pochette Kit Bag
  • Race day outfit with spare socks in my La Pochette Sweat Bag
  • Hair ties
  • Wipes for a quick freshen-up, there are often no showers at Hyrox venues
  • A post race change of clothing

Post-race organisation is so helpful. My sweaty kit goes straight into my La Pochette Sweat Bag, keeping everything else in my bag clean and odour free until I’m home and it’s straight into the washing machine. Safe to say it gets very sweaty out there!

For warm-up, recovery and fuelling, I always bring a skipping rope and resistance bands, electrolytes and pre-race snacks and my refillable water bottle.

All my toiletries are packed into my La Pochette Anywhere/ Everywhere Pouch. The small size is perfect for short flights and because it’s clear, everything is visible and easy to grab when you’re on the go.

Once I’ve crossed the finish line, comfort is everything. Slides hoodie and electrolytes.

Changing into dry clothing immediately after finishing makes such a difference. Fresh socks and underwear are what I hear people mention most

My top tip: If you are packing a hold bag always pack race shoes, race kit, and nutrition in your carry-on. If luggage goes missing, the race still goes ahead!

Pack smarter

The right bag makes a genuine difference. The Sweat Bag is lightweight, antimicrobial and deodorising, keeping sweaty kit contained. The antimicrobial lining actively reduces bacteria rather than just trapping smells - which matters when you are on a train for two hours or driving home.

If you are packing bulkier layers or a full change of outfit, the Kit Bag has a waterproof lining and larger capacity. It keeps the damp kit separated from everything else in your bag.

Both bags work for regular training as well as race day, so they integrate into your routine and the range of colours means you can tone perfectly with your outfit choice.
