My Night-Time Rituals with Hayley Dawes, Founder of Dreem Distillery

My Night-Time Rituals: At Home & Away

For me, sleep is never an afterthought. It’s the foundation for everything else - how I show up as a mother, a founder, a friend, and how I feel in my own body. After years of struggling with insomnia, I’ve built rituals that help me wind down at the end of the day, wherever I am in the world. These rituals aren’t about perfection, but about creating space for rest and recovery.

Here’s a glimpse into my nightly routine, both at home and when I’m travelling.

1. An Early Dinner

I’ve learned the hard way that eating late doesn’t do my sleep any favours. I try to finish dinner by 7/7.30pm wherever possible. A typical evening meal for me is something light and nourishing and my favourite go-to is grilled salmon with roasted vegetables, or a simple lentil salad with avocado and herbs. Keeping it balanced and not too heavy means my body isn’t working overtime to digest when it should be winding down.

2. Run the Bath

Nothing signals “the day is done” quite like a warm bath. At home, I pour in our The Z’s Anchoring Bath Salts, a blend of magnesium and broad-spectrum CBD that melts away tension and prepares the body for rest.

If I’m travelling, I’m never without our Jet Set Kit which includes all of my favourite Dreem products in travel sizes. I love using our Into the Deep bath oil - it’s the first thing I crave when I walk through a hotel room door. Even a quick soak has the power to press pause and ground me.

3. Cold Water Reset

When I’m away, I sometimes have access to a cold pool or sea. A short dip in cold water is invigorating and helps regulate my nervous system especially after a long flight. I always carry my La Pochette Wet Bag in my suitcase, so I can pack a swimsuit without worrying about soaking the rest of my things. It’s one of those simple tools that makes rituals on the go so much easier.

4. Breathwork with Rob Rea

Breath is my anchor. I often practice guided breathwork before bed, working with techniques I’ve learned from Rob Rea, Dreem’s breathwork partner. It’s extraordinary how quickly slowing and deepening the breath can quieten the mind, dissolve the day’s stress, and create the conditions for sleep. Even five minutes makes a difference.

5. Screen-Free Zone

The blue light of devices is a sleep saboteur. I have a simple rule: no screens an hour before bed. That’s when I lean into journaling, reading a book, or spending time with my children. If I’m travelling, it means resisting the urge to scroll in bed - it’s not always easy, but my sleep is always better when I stay firm on this boundary.

6. A Few Final Touches

  • A cup of camomile tea – I love a simple one by Pukka.

  • A few drops ofDreem Distillery Night Drops under the tongue, the ritual that started it all for me.

  • Cool, fresh air in the bedroom and a comfortable eye mask to block out any lingering light.

Why Rituals Matter

These rituals aren’t elaborate, they’re grounding. Whether I’m at home in London or halfway across the world, they signal to my body that it’s time to rest. Sleep isn’t something to push through or put off. It’s the foundation of our resilience, our beauty, and our capacity to show up fully in life.

If you’re struggling with sleep, start small. Run a bath, breathe deeply, or simply put your phone away an hour before bed. These little shifts can be game-changing.

Here’s to deep rest, wherever you are.
